The Operate Gantry or Overhead Crane course provides practical, hands-on training to ensure you can safely operate crane equipment in real-world environments. You’ll learn how to:
- Identify hazards associated with crane and lifting operations
- Apply WHS legislation and site-specific crane operating procedures
- Plan and prepare for lifting tasks and load movements
- Conduct pre-operational checks and inspections
- Safely operate gantry and overhead cranes
- Lift, move, and position loads using correct techniques
- Communicate effectively with doggers and spotters
- Shut down, secure, and store crane equipment correctly
By the end of the course, you’ll be confident operating gantry and overhead cranes safely and in accordance with workplace and regulatory requirements
Training Delivery & Assessment
To provide the best learning experience, this course is delivered using a blended learning model combining online theory with face-to-face practical training.
You’ll be supported throughout the course by an experienced Trainer Assessor.
Step 1 - Online Theory (within 30 days)

Step 2 - Face-to-Face Training
- 1-day practical session (approximately 4 hours)
- Hands-on tasks based on the theory component

- Basic computer skills and internet access
- Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills
