The Licence to Perform Dogging (CPCCLDG3001) course provides practical, hands-on training to safely perform dogging tasks on worksites. This nationally recognised course is suitable for workers in construction, civil, and maintenance industries. On completion, you’ll be able to safely guide crane movements and manage loads safely in line with workplace and legislative requirements.

Licence to Perform Dogging - CPCCLDG3001 – Course Information
This course focuses on developing the practical skills required to safely direct crane operations and control suspended loads. Training includes both theory and extensive hands-on practice. Key learning areas include:
- Load Control & Rigging Fundamentals - Attaching, moving, and releasing loads using slings, chains, and lifting equipment
- Crane Signalling Techniques - Communicating clearly with crane operators using hand signals, radios, and standard methods
- WHS Legislation & Responsibilities - Understanding legal obligations for dogging work
- Hazard Identification - Recognising and controlling risks associated with lifting operations
- Lift Planning & Risk Control - Preparing safe lifting plans and applying control measures
- Equipment Inspection - Checking lifting gear, cranes, and accessories for defects
- Incident & Emergency Response - Responding to dropped loads, equipment failure, or unsafe conditions
- Workplace Communication & Reporting - Reporting hazards, incidents, and faults in line with site procedures
By the end of the course, you’ll be capable of performing dogging operations confidently while maintaining safety and compliance on site.
Training Delivery & Assessment
Dogging is classified as high-risk work and must be delivered in person. This course is conducted face-to-face over four days and includes both theory and practical assessments.
Training takes place in a controlled environment where you’ll receive close supervision, step-by-step instruction, and personalised feedback from experienced trainers.
High Risk Work Licence (HRWL)
After successfully completing the course, you may apply for a High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL) through WorkSafe WA or WorkSafe QLD. Licences are valid for five years.
Important information:
- Applications must be lodged within 60 days of course completion
- A 12-month renewal grace period applies if a licence expires
- If the grace period is exceeded, both theory and practical assessments must be repeated
For convenience, Summit Training can submit your licence application on your behalf for an additional $100 fee.

Entry Requirements
To enrol, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be 18 years or older
- Wear steel-capped safety boots and required PPE
- Have basic computer and internet access for enrolment communication
- Demonstrate adequate language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills
- Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist

Construction Training Fund (CTF - WA)
Eligible apprentices, trainees, workers, and business owners within WA’s building and construction industry may receive subsidies of up to 70% (metro) or 80% (regional) per course. As an approved bulk-billing provider, Summit Training manages the funding paperwork and claims process - meaning you only pay the remaining gap fee while completing your training.
